Playing significant role in developing the tourism sector in Netherlands, Van Gogh Museum has the long history upon his death in 1890. Hundred artworks were inherited to his brother, Theo who was reported to die six months after Gogh’s death. Such unsold works later were inherited by Johanna van Gogh-Bonger and she inherited those amazing artworks to her son, Vincent Williem van Gogh by 1925. All those artworks had ever been exhibited in Stedelijk Museum as William loaned it for many years.
Not long after that, the Dutch government made an attempt to design the museum in 1963 with the help of Dutch architect, Gerrit Rietveld who died in the following year. The establishment was continued by Martined van Goor in 1998 and 1999 and such amazing exhibition wings were added by Kisho Kurokawa, Japanese architect. A couple of years, two Dutchmen were reported to steal the paintings and they were successfully arrested and the paintings were returned after long negotiation. Today, this museum becomes the major tourism sector apart from other splendors in Netherlands.
